Description

For sale: a rare and exceptional first edition, second printing hardcover copy of Watership Down by Richard Adams. First Edition unstated, 1972 Macmillan. Second Printing with number line reversed, 10 through 2.

The book is in Near Fine condition with bright boards with clean cloth quarter-wrap, a light 1″ damp stain on the front  and a strong sheen. There is very strong title gilt on a straight spine and the facsimile signature on front. Also with a 1″ damp stain on the top of otherwise clean page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and strong corners. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with  the ghost of an erased price on the half-title page. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and bright, making it an excellent addition to any collection. Appears unread.

The dust jacket is in Very Good to Near Fine condition with mild surface wear, a lightly sunned spine, moderate to heavy edge wear and three damp stains. Two damp stains are on the spine with no transfer to the book spine. The third stain (1/4″ x 3/4″) is located in the upper corner of the jacket, which did cause the transfer to the front board described earlier. The dust jacket is a first state with $6.95 price on the front flap and a  crease on the front flap and the 70003 code on the rear surface. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap. Not many around in this condition.

A phenomenal worldwide bestseller for more than forty years, Richard Adams’s Watership Down is a timeless classic and one of the most beloved novels of all time. Set in England’s Downs, a once idyllic rural landscape, this stirring tale of adventure, courage and survival follows a band of very special creatures on their flight from the intrusion of man and the certain destruction of their home. Led by a stouthearted pair of brothers, they journey forth from their native Sandleford Warren through the harrowing trials posed by predators and adversaries, to a mysterious promised land and a more perfect society.

Large volume ships promptly in a corrugated mailer with the book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
