Description

For sale: a Rare early Book Club edition of The Tin Drum by Günter Grass complete with a Very Good  dust jacket wrapped in a new archival wrap. Book Club edition unstated, 1962 Pantheon.  This is the first English language translation by Ralph Manheim. Book Club edition is the same size,  design and number of pages as the true first.

The book is in Very Good condition with bright boards with scuff marks and a few spots, lightly faded title gilt on the heavily sunned spine, lightly foxed page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, and one bumped corner with the adjacent edge rubbed bare. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with a crease and a large 25 cent price marked on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with mild surface wear and heavy edge wear., chips, tears and small gaps. First state jacket is price-clipped but retains the 2/63 date on the front flap.  This is a presumed Book Club edition jacket with the missing price clipped to disguise it by a previous owner.  Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

The Tin Drum by Günter Grass is  a classic of post-World War II literature, both in Germany and around the world. The story revolves around the life of Oskar Matzerath, as narrated by himself when confined in a mental hospital during the years 1952–1954.

Thick volume ships promptly in a corrugated mailer with book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
