For sale: a Rare first edition, later printing hardcover copy of A Tear and a Smile by Kahlil Gibran. First Edition unstated, 1960 Knopf. Fifteenth Printing, July 1969 stated. Includes four full page illustrations by the author.
The book is in Very Good+ condition with clean, bright boards with slight curvature and strong title gilt on the lightly faded spine and on the front design. Also, light foxing on page blocks, tight binding, moderate to heavy spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The first free end papers has a brief gift inscription written in ink. No other marks or inscriptions are inside and the pages are clean and bright.
The dust jacket is in Very Good- condition with the price clipped from the front flap, moderate to heavy surface and edge wear, which looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap. The jacket is first state with the 13 titles on the rear flap matching the the 13 titles published before 1960.
A Tear and a Smile by Kahlil Gibran contains 56 parables, stories, and poems in Gibran’s wholly inimitable manner. Illustrated with 4 of his own paintings and drawings, it is the most important posthumous addition to the canon of the great writer.
