For sale: a Very Rare and Exceptional first hardcover edition, first printing of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard in a new  archival wrap. First US Edition unstated, 1967 Grove Press with 67-30108 LICC and no ISBN. First Printing stated.

The book is in Near Fine condition with clean, bright boards, strong title ink on a straight spine, clean page blocks, tight binding, no spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with the previous owner’s name on the first free end paper which is stained from an old newsprint insert. The rear paste down has a much lighter binding stain. No other marks, inscriptions or signs of ownership. The interior pages are clean and lightly toned.

The dust jacket is in Near Fine condition with the $3.95 price on the front flap, mild surface wear, and moderate edge wear. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

In this witty, erudite comedy, the author has had the brilliant idea of taking two of Shakespeare’s classic nonentities – Hamlet’s school friends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern – and elevating them to the center of dramatic action. By the same token, Mr. Stoppard has relegated Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius, Gertrude, and Polonius to secondary roles.
