For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first paperback edition, early printing of The Hostage by Brendan Behan.  First Edition described, 1959 Grove Press. Sixth Printing stated with 59-8207 LOC number on copyright page and $1.75 cover price.

The exterior of the paperback edition is in Very Good condition, with clean, lightly rubbed front cover with no creases, clean page blocks, no spine tilt, lightly rubbed spine ends, and moderate to heavy edge and corner wear. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with the previous owner’s crossed out name on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or  signs of ownership inside. The inside rear cover and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The Hostage is set in a disreputable Dublin lodging house peopled by a strange gallery of I.R.A. men, religious eccentrics, prostitutes, and perverts. In the house appears a young Cockney soldier, held as a hostage in reprisal for an I.R.A. man who was to be hanged in the morning.

Thin Paperback volume with one play ships promptly in a manila envelope with book wrapped in both craft paper and bubble wrap.
