For sale: a rare and exceptional Signed first edition, first printing of The Dream of Scipio by Iain Pears, protected in a new archival wrap. First Edition unstated, 2002 Riverhead, First Printing with full number line, 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2.

The book is in Near Fine condition with bright boards with smudges, strong title gilt on a straight spine, clean page blocks, tight binding, no spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and one lightly bumped corner. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with the ghost of an erased price on the signed publisher’s page. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and bright, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Near Fine condition with the price present on the front flap, a “Signed Copy” sticker on the front and mild surface and edge wear. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

An ancient manuscript called “The Dream of Scipio” that explores timeless philosophical questions links three separate centuries–the fifth, the end of the Roman Empire; the fourteenth, the time of the Black Death; and the twentieth during World War II–and three stories of love, all set in Provence.
