Description

For sale is a rare and exceptional circa First Edition First Printing of The Clue in the Crumbling Wall [Original Edition] (Nancy Drew Mystery #22) by Carolyn Keene, in a Poor dust jacket protected in an archival wrap. First [Original] Edition unstated, with 1945 Grosset and Dunlap on the copyright page. Presumed First Printing with no subsequent printing and the Orange Silhouette endpapers.

The hardcover book is in Very Good condition with lightly soiled, bright blue boards with a strong sheen and cloth pattern. The orange title ink is strong on the front board and the straight spine. Nancy has her scarf and heels in the center graphic design. Also with heavily foxed page blocks, tight binding with strong seams, mild spine tilt, heavily rolled spine ends rubbed bare, large bare spots on the bottom edges and rubbed and lightly rounded corners, also with bare spots. The interior of the book is also in Good condition with the ghost of an erased price on the half-title page.  Both illustrated “Orange Silhouette” end papers have erased names. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside are heavily  toned, and fragile. Several page edges have tears and chips. Not strong enough to be read.

The Poor dust jacket with strong color has four long tape stains on the front, spine and back. Most of the the tape was removed and replaced with acid-free tape on the inside of the jacket. Most of the tape repairs are on the edges, and there are large gaps on both spine ends.  Also with, mild surface wear, heavy edge wear, and chips and gaps. First issue jacket with a blond Nancy Drew. Looks good in a new Brodart archival wrap.

The Clue in the Crumbling Wall is the 22nd volume in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series, and was first published in 1945. Nancy and her friends work to find an inheritance concealed in the walls of an old mansion before it can be discovered and stolen by some unscrupulous men
