Description

For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first Modern Library edition, first printing hardcover copy of Ulysses by James Joyce with no dust jacket.  First Modern Library Giant edition, stated 1940 Modern Library. First Printing with no subsequent printing.

The exterior of the book is in Very Good condition with bright, cloth boards with two on the front. There is a fairly strong title block on a heavily, sunned spine so the title no longer contrasts with the background . Also, a few marks on the page blocks, a tight binding, no spine tilt, heavily rolled and rubbed spine ends, heavy bottom edge wear, and rubbed corners with bare spots. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with uneven toning to the lightly foxed endpapers.  No other marks, inscriptions or other signs of ownership inside. The interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

No dust jacket.

Loosely based on the Odyssey, this landmark of modern literature follows ordinary Dubliners in 1904. Capturing a single day in the life of Dubliner Leopold Bloom, his friends Buck Mulligan and Stephen Dedalus, his wife Molly, and a scintillating cast of supporting characters, Joyce pushes Celtic lyricism and vulgarity to splendid extremes. Captivating experimental techniques range from interior monologues to exuberant wordplay and earthy humor. A major achievement in 20th century literature.

Ships promptly in a corrugated mailer with book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
