For sale: a rare and exceptional second hardcover edition, early printing of The Two Towers: Being the Second Part of The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Second Edition stated on title page, 1965 Houghton Mifflin. Seventh Printing stated.
The book is in Near Fine condition with clean, cloth boards, strong title gilt on the spine and front cover design, clean page blocks, tight binding, no spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with the previous owner’s bookplate on the first free end paper and no other marks, inscriptions, or signs of ownership. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned.
The dust jacket is in Good condition with heavy edge wear, a sunned spine with damp stains and a 1/2″ square hole in the top-third of the spine. A first-state jacket with the $7.50 price on the front flap looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.
