For sale: a Rare and Exceptional First paperback  Edition, early printing of Twilight in Italy by D. H. Lawrence. First paperback edition unstated, 1962 Compass Books.  Second Printing October 1962 stated and the cover price scratched out on both the front and spine.  215 pages plus three pages of ads.

The exterior of the paperback edition is in Good condition, with clean, lightly faded covers with two corner creases, a faint title on a sunned spine, a small stain on the bottom page block, a tight binding with no spine cracks, mild spine tilt, rubbed spine edges and ends, moderate to heavy edge wear and rubbed corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or signs of ownership inside. The inside rear cover and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

Twilight in Italy is suffused with nostalgia and premonition. For, looming over the idyll of rural Italy hover dark spectres: the arrival of the industrial age and the brewing storm of World War I, upheavals that would change the face of Europe forever.
