For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first uniform edition, third printing, hardcover copy of Remembrance Of Things Past – Uniform Edition, Volume 12: Time Regained by Marcel Proust in a  new archival wrap. First Uniform Edition unstated, 1949 Chatto & Windus with full-color title page dated 1940.  Third  Printing (1949) with two reprints listed on copyright page.

The exterior of the book is in Very Good condition with clean, cloth boards with a bit of sheen, and strong title ink on the front board. The spine is lightly sunned with a lightly faded title and author ink emblem. The binding starting to loosen at top and there is a partial spine crack at the half-title page. Also, a few marks and smudges on page blocks, mild spine tilt, rolled and lightly rubbed spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rounded corners with two bumped corners.

The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with a small 3-line name and address on the front paste-down and the ghost of an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions or other signs of ownership inside. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The final volume of In Search of Lost Time chronicles the years of World War I, when, as M. de Charlus reflects on a moonlit walk, Paris threatens to become another Pompeii. Years later, after the war’s end, Proust’s narrator returns to Paris, where Mme. Verdurin has become the Princesse de Guermantes. He reflects on time, reality, jealousy, artistic creation, and the raw material for literature-his past life.
