For sale: a rare and exceptional Avenal edition first printing of The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter in a Near Fine dust jacket protected in a new archival wrap. Edition unstated and undated, probably c. 1980 Avenal, with 0-517-142139 ISBN on the spine and Franklin Watts on the title page. First Printing, assumed with no subsequent printing.
The exterior of the book is in Near Fine condition with spotless, cloth boards with a strong sheen, strong title gilt on a straight spine, clean page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, strong spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with abrasions from a pretty successfully removed bookplate. No other marks, inscriptions, or any other signs of ownership. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and bright, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with moderate surface wear, heavy edge wear, with chips and a gap at the top of the spine, and no price on the front flap, as issued. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.
Small volume (8″ x 5.5″ x 0.25″) ships promptly in a manila envelope with the book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
