First Edition dust jacket designed by Ben Feder, Inc. No Book Club Edition (BCE) imprint, logo or dimple. The C23 gutter code on page 408 is presumed to be the first BCE printing.
The book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright boards with a strong sheen, strong title gilt on the straight spine, previous owner’s stamped name on top and bottom page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly bumped corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition, with a note on the title page in ink: Hugo Winner / Best SF Novel / 1962 and o other marks, inscriptions, or any other signs of ownership. The interior pages are clean and lightly toned.
The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with the BCE statement cut off from the front flap, mild surface wear, heavy edge wear and large yellowed tape stains on the edges. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.
