For sale is a rare and exceptional First Edition, First Printing hardcover copy of Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins with a remainder mark in a new archival wrap. First Edition described, August 1980 Bantam Books. First Printing with full number line reversed, 0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 and a $12.95 cover price.

The book is in Near Fine condition with clean, bright, cloth boards, strong title gilt on a slightly wrinkled spine, a large remainder on the bottom of the otherwise clean page blocks, tight binding, no spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and one bumped corner. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with no marks, inscriptions or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and bright, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with mild surface wear, heavy edge wear and two tears and two gaps on the rear cover. First state jacket with clean, bright cover design by Leslie W. LePere and the $12.95 price on the front flap. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

Still Life with Woodpecker is a sort of a love story that takes place inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It reveals the purpose of the moon, explains the difference between criminals and outlaws, examines the conflict between social activism and romantic individualism, and paints a portrait of contemporary society that includes powerful Arabs, exiled royalty, and pregnant cheerleaders. It also deals with the problem of redheads.
