Description

For sale is a rare and exceptional circa 1948 Edition of The Secret at Shadow Ranch [Original Edition] (Nancy Drew Mystery #5) by Carolyn Keene, in a Poor dust jacket protected in an archival wrap. First [Original] Edition unstated, 1931 Grosset and Dunlap on copyright page. 1948 Printing with The Ghost of Blackwood Hall as the last published title listed on the front flap and the Blue Silhouette endpapers.

The hardcover book is in Very Good condition with lightly soiled, bright blue boards with a strong sheen and without the tweed pattern issued in the 1950s. The title ink is strong on the front board and the straight spine. Also with clean, lightly soiled page blocks, tight binding with strong seams, mild spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, large bumps to the bottom edges and rubbed and lightly rounded corners with no bare spots. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the ghost of an erased price on the title page.  Both illustrated “Blue Silhouette” end papers have 2″ tape stains on the paste-downs and a lighter transfer stain on the free end papers. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside are lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The Poor dust jacket with strong color has three long tape stains on the front and small stains on the flaps that were taped to the end papers. All the the tape was removed and replaced with acid-free tape on the inside of the jacket. One of the tape repairs is a jagged tear that cuts through the middle of the front graphic.  Also with, mild surface wear, heavy edge wear, and chips and gaps. Looks good in a new Brodart archival wrap.

The Clue in the Diary is the fifth volume in the Nancy Drew Mystery Stories series, and was first published in 1931. In Arizona, Nancy uncovers a strange mystery about a kidnapped child.

Ships promptly in manila envelope with the book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
