Description

For sale: a Rare first hardcover edition, earlier printing of The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. First Edition stated, September 1923 Knopf. Fifty-ninth , August 1956 stated. Includes full page illustrations by the author. Second reprint after the publisher Reset and printed from new plates, November 1953.

The book is in Very Good condition with with uneven sheen on the clean boards, strong title gilt on a convex spine and front cover graphic, clean page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends,  mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with a lightly foxed frontispieces and end papers. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership. The interior pages are clean and lightly toned.

The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with the $3.00 price on the front flap, mild surface and edge wear,  which looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

Published in 1923, Gibran’s masterpiece has been translated into more than twenty languages.
