For sale: a very Rare and Exceptional first Arthur Rackham hardcover edition, first printing of Peter Pan, or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up by J. M. Barrie with no dust jacket.  First Edition unstated, 1928 Hodder and Stoughton.  First Printing 1928 stated on the copyright page and no subsequent printing on the copyright page.

The book is in Near Fine condition with clean, bright boards and a lightly sunned spine. The paper label on the front is unmarked, while the paper title label on the spine  has moderate spotting. Also, clean page blocks, tight binding, no spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is in Near Fine condition with no marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership. The end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

Peter Pan, or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, often known simply as Peter Pan, is a work by J. M. Barrie, in the form of a 1904 play. Barrie continued to revise the play for years after its debut until the first publication of the play script in 1928 by Hodder and Stoughton Limited, London, under the name Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up.

The first published edition was part of the publisher’s The Plays of J.M. Barrie series and included an imprint on the half title page: “The Uniform Edition Of The Plays of J.M. Barrie.”
