For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first Arthur Rackham hardcover edition, first printing of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens by J. M. Barrie with no dust jacket.  Revised Edition unstated, 1906 Scribner’s. Presumed First Printing with 1913 on the title page and the Scribner’s colophon and no subsequent printing on the copyright page.  Illustrated by Arthur Rackham.

The book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright boards and a strong title on a lightly sunned spine. Also, clean page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with the name of the previous owner and an erased price on the first free end paper. There is an older white paper label, 1.5″ x 1″ on the front paste down, as well. The frontispiece is missing, but the other fifteen full page Arthur Rackham color prints are clean, strong and protected by clean, captioned tissue guards with no foxing. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens by J.M. Barrie tells the story of how Peter left his family as an infant, became a friend of fairies, and (re)learned to fly. The first US Edition with drawings by Arthur Rackham was published in 1906 with 50 illustrations and 16 plates in this abridged version.
