Description

For sale: a rare and exceptional hardcover Book Club edition of Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov in a new archival wrap. Book Club Edition unstated, with 1962 G. P. Putnam’s imprints.

The book is in Near Fine condition with clean, bright boards with a strong sheen. Also, strong title ink on the upside-down spine, tight binding, mild spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and strong corners. The interior of the book is in Near Fine condition with the previous owner’s name and date on the front paste down which are almost completely hidden by the front flap. No other marks, inscriptions or signs of ownership inside. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and bright.

The dust jacket is in Near Fine condition with mild wear to the top spine, heavy wear with chips to the bottom spine and a 1/4″ tear to the front flap seam.  Looks great in new archival wrap.

In Pale Fire Nabokov offers a cornucopia of deceptive pleasures: a 999-line poem by the reclusive genius John Shade; an adoring foreword and commentary by Shade’s self-styled Boswell, Dr. Charles Kinbote; a darkly comic novel of suspense, literary idolatry and one-upmanship, and political intrigue.
