Description

For sale: a rare and exceptional Book Club edition, early printing hardcover copy of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. BOMC Edition unstated, with 1952 Scribner copyright. Early Printing with 1952 on title page and W on copyright page.

The book is in Very Good condition with light blue boards with moderate to heavy toning at edges. Also, strong silver title gilt on the lightly sunned spine, clean page blocks, tight binding, moderate spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and rounded and rubbed  corners. The small dimple on the rear board is the only evidence of being a Book of the Month Club edition. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with no marks or inscriptions. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Poor condition with a 2″ x 4″ piece of the front missing. Previous owner has cleverly backed the missing section with a color copy of the original DJ. The jagged edge of the rip is quite noticeable, with  heavy edge wear, chips and BOMC imprints on both flaps.  Looks good in a new Brodart archival wrap.

The last novel Ernest Hemingway saw published, The Old Man and the Sea has proved to be one of the most enduring works of American fiction. It is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal: a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream.

Ships promptly in manila envelope with the book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
