Description

For sale: a rare first edition, second printing hardcover copy of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck with no dust jacket. First  Edition unstated, 1937 Covici Friede. Second Issue with “loosely” on page 9, and no subsequent printings listed. 

The book is in Good condition with lightly soiled boards with a damp stain on the front board that continues on the bottom edge and bottom page block. The other page blocks are relatively clean. There is a strong title/graphic on the front and on the heavily  sunned spine.  The book also features a, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and rounded corners. The previous owner’s bookplate was partially removed from the front paste down and there are glue spots and abrasions from something similar removed from the rear. Both end paper have a glue stain from the binding. Inside pages are lightly toned with some foxing.

Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck. Published in 1937, it narrates the experiences of George Milton and Lennie Small, two displaced migrant ranch workers, who move from place to place in California in search of new job opportunities during the Great Depression in the United States.
