For sale: a Rare and Exceptional ninth edition, first printing hardcover copy of Nonsense Songs and Stories by Edward Lear with no dust jacket.  Ninth Edition with a special note, 1894 Frederick Warne undated.  First Printing with “Entered at Stationers’ Hall” on copyright page with no subsequent printing.  Page decorations by Edward Lear. Includes a four page facsimile of “The Duck and the Kangaroo” at the end of the volume.

The book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright covers with half-wrapped leather and half-cloth boards with bevel edges.  The spine title still has red ink present  Also with, strong title gilt on the front covers and the author’s name with stronger red ink and illustrations only on the front cloth.  The volume has clean, toned page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled and rubbed spine ends, moderate to heavy edge wear, and rubbed corners with no bare spots. The interior of the book is in Near Fine condition with the previous owner’s bookplate on the first free end paper.  No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers are delicate but the interior pages are strong and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
