Description
For sale is a first edition, first printing hardcover copy of Native Son by Richard Wright preserved in a new archival wrap. First Edition unstated, 1940 Harper and Brothers. SECOND Printing with 1940 on both Title and Copyright pages and B-P code.
The exterior of the book is in Near Fine with clean, bright boards, clean page blocks, strong title gilt on spine, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with the ghost of an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
The second state dust jacket is in Good condition, with heavy edge wear, chips and gaps on both spine ends. Looks good in a new Brodart archival wrap.
Right from the start, Bigger Thomas had been headed for jail. It could have been for assault or petty larceny; by chance, it was for murder and rape. Native Son tells the story of this young black man caught in a downward spiral after he kills a young white woman in a brief moment of panic.
Ships promptly in a corrugated mailer with book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
