Description

For sale: a rare early Book Club Edition, hardcover copy of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. Book Club Edition unstated, with 1983 Harcourt on copyright page with no BCE statements and no gutter code. This issue is the same size and design as the true First Edition.

The exterior of the book is in Very Good condition with lightly soiled boards and a small Book Club dimple on the rear board. Also, strong title gilt on a wrinkled spine, lightly foxed page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and two bumped corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with the ghost of an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and bright, making this an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Good condition with moderate surface wear, heavy edge wear, chips and small gaps, no price on the creased front flap and no ISBN on the back. Otherwise same text and design as the first edition. Looks good in a Brodart archival wrap.

First published in 1980, The Name of the Rose became an international sensation, beguiling readers around the world with its mix of history, humor, and intellectual heft. This beautifully designed modern edition, illustrated with exclusive original drawings created by Umberto Eco, will enchant a new generation of readers and entice old fans to fall under its spell once again.

Ships promptly in corrugated mailer with book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
