Description

For sale: a rare and exceptional first edition, first printing hardcover copy of Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov in a Book Club dust jacket protected in a new archival wrap. First Edition unstated, 1955 G. P. Putnam’s. First printing with only 12 lines of text on the copyright page: no copyright after 1955, no subsequent printings or impressions, 58-10755 Library of Congress code and no Book Club imprints.

The book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright boards with moderate to heavy toning at the edges. Also, strong title gilt on the spine, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly bumped and rubbed corners. The interior of the book is in Near Fine condition with no marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is a Book Club Edition jacket with no BOMC logo or statement. The only sign of being a BOMC jacket is the missing price on the front flap. The jacket is in Very Good condition with mild surface wear, heavy edge wear and two 1″ tears repaired with acid-free tape. A nicely matched jacket to the condition of the book. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

The most famous and controversial novel from one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century tells the story of Humbert Humbert’s obsessive, devouring, and doomed passion for the nymphet Dolores Haze.

Ships promptly in a corrugated mailer with the book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
