For sale: a Rare and Exceptional hardcover copy of King Lear by William Shakespeare in a Near Fine dust jacket, protected in a new archival wrap. First Arden Shakespeare Edition 1917.  First edition, 1917 DC Heath. Early Print with 4 B 3 print code.

Very Good hardcover with clean, bright, cloth-covered boards, faded gilt title on a straight spine and stronger on the cover design. Also with, lightly foxed page blocks, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and rounded and rubbed corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with pencil notes on the foxed, last free end paper and paste down. No other marks, inscriptions or signs of ownership. The front end papers and the interior pages are clean and toned.

King Lear is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. It depicts the gradual descent into madness of the title character, after he disposes of his kingdom by giving bequests to two of his three daughters egged on by their continual flattery, bringing tragic consequences for all.
