First Paperback Edition unstated, Harvest Books HB 37 published by Harcourt Brace in 1959. First printing, with no subsequent printing and a $2.25 cover price.
The exterior of this paperback edition is in Good condition, with toned and lightly soiled covers with a corner crease on the back, soiled page blocks, mild surface wear, strong title on a tilted spine, a tight binding with a mild spine cracks, rubbed spine ends, mild edge wear and rounded corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with the three line inscription of the previous owner on the inside cover and an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are lightly foxed and toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
Jacobs Room employs the conventions of a bildungs roman to develop the expectations of a promising young man, only to pull them out from under him. Woolf illustrates what happens when a young man is denied the opportunity to excel and is instead sent to war. This book also serves as an elegy for the missing generation lost in the trenches of World War I.
