For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first hardcover edition, early printing of Huntsman, What Quarry? by Edna St. Vincent Millay with no dust jacket. First Edition unstated, 1939 Harper and Brother printing with the Third Edition statement on the copyright page. The Harper D-O code indicates an April 1939 printing.
The book exterior is in Very Good condition with lightly faded boards with spots, strong title ink on the complete paper label on a convex spine, toned page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, , heavy edge wear, and lightly rubbed leather corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the owner’s gift inscription and date on the first free end paper and a subsequent owner on the front paste down. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean, supple and lightly toned.

Millay writes about her impressions of places, young love and traditions. Included are a string of emotional poems of her feelings against the brutalities of Fascist Spain, Nazi Germany, and imperialistic Japan, and Czechoslovakia. Including her views on other European countries during this tumultuous period. And a tribute to her friend and poet, Elinor Wylie, who had passed away.
