Description

For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first edition, first printing, hardcover copy of Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. First Edition unstated, 1911 Scribner with 1911 on the title page and “Published October, 1911” on the copyright page.  Presumed First Issue with the word “wearily”  in correct type on pg.135  and four pages of ads at the end.

The exterior of the book is in Good condition with clean, cloth boards with a some spots, and strong title gilt on the front board. The spine is heavily  sunned with a completely faded title. The top page block is foxed, the side block is deckled, and the bottom is compressed. The hinges are strong but cracked. Also with a heavy spine tilt, rolled spine ends, moderate to heavy edge wear, and rounded and rubbed  corners.  The interior of the book is in Good condition with a 1″ crack on the front paste down. There are lightly toned pages and a few age spots. No other marks, inscriptions or other signs of ownership inside.  Strong enough to read, but spine title is no longer visible.

No dust jacket.
