VG harcover with deep marooon cloth with a surprising amount of sheen and mild marks and rubbings, strong gilt on most of the gilt border on the front board, corners rubbed hard, and spine ends with mild rubbing. Previous owner’s name and initials penned nicely on the ffep. The inside pages are clean, supple and lightly toned. Strong gilt to “Essays First Series” at the top, “Emerson” in the middle, of a moderately sunned spine, the publisher’s name at the bottom has no gilt at all. No dust jacket. Looks nice on a shelf,but strong enough to read. 5.25″x7.5″; 396 pages with 12 essays. Ships promptly in corrugated mailer with book wrapped in both craft paper and multiple layers of bubble wrap.
