For sale: a Rare and Exceptional early Book Club edition, later printing hardcover copy of The Story of Doctor Dolittle by Hugh Lofting in a new archival wrap.
The book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright boards with a strong color design on both boards. Also with, strong title ink on a convex spine, some smudges on the page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed and rounded corners. The interior of the book is in Good condition with two stains on the first ten pages, and the ghost of an erased price on the first free end paper. There are also two stains on the first ten pages. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with no price on the front flap, a sunned spine and moderate to heavy surface and edge wear. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.
This is the first of the books about the famous Doctor Dolittle. Published in 1920, it received the immediate and enthusiastic reaction of children’s book critics. But even more important, children loved the good doctor and wrote to Hugh Lofting asking for more of his adventures.
