For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first edition, first printing hardcover copy of The Confidential Clerk by T. S. Eliot, complete with an unclipped dust jacket protected in a new archival wrap. First Edition described, 1954 Harcourt Brace with date in roman numerals, mcmliv on copyright page. First printing with no subsequent printing.
The book is in Very Good condition with clean, lightly faded boards with a few marks, strong title gilt on a straight spine, clean page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled and lightly rubbed spine ends, mild edge wear, and rounded corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the brief gift inscription of the previous owner on the foxed first free end paper and a small vintage paper label from the bookseller on the front paste down. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with moderate surface wear, heavy edge wear, chips, gaps. and the $3.00 price on the front flap. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.
