For sale is a a rare and exceptional Book Club Edition hardcover copy of The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, in a new archival wrap. The book is a Book of the Month Club (BOTM) Edition unstated, with 1951 on the copyright page and the publisher’s name, Little Brown, on the title page. The book is the same size, design and number of pages as the first edition with no BOTM statement, imprint or logo.
The exterior of this hardcover edition is in Near Fine condition. The black boards are spotless with the small book club dimple on the back board. The title gilt is very strong, and the page blocks are clean. The binding is tight with no creases or spine tilt, while the spine ends are lightly rolled. There is mild edge wear and the corners are lightly bumped. Inside the book is in also in Near Fine unread condition, with no marks, inscriptions, or any other signs of ownership. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and bright.
The Very Good dust jacket has moderate surface wear and a few marks on the back, and heavy edge wear, and two tears repaired with acid-free tape. L
