Description

For sale: a Rare and Exceptional Book Club edition of Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. Book Club Edition (BCE) stated only on the dust cover with 1961 Simon and Schuster on copyright page with no ISBN. Early BCE printing with L44 gutter code on page 472, which indicates an October 1970 print date.

The book is in Near Fine condition with spotless, cloth boards with no BCE dimple on the back, strong title ink on a convex spine, clean page blocks, tight binding, no spine tilt, lightly rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with the ghost of an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and bright, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Near Fine condition with the BCE imprint and no price on the front flap, and mild surface and edge wear. Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

Set in Italy during World War II, this is the story of the incomparable, malingering bombardier, Yossarian, a hero who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy—it is his own army, which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to excuse himself from the perilous missions he’s assigned, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule: a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but if he makes a formal request to be removed from duty, he is proven sane and therefore ineligible to be relieved.

Ships promptly in a corrugated mailer with the book wrapped in both craft paper and bubble wrap.
