For sale: a rare and exceptional first edition, first printing hardcover copy of G. Schirmer’s Collection of Operas: Carmen, Opera in Four Acts by Georges Bizet, Henri Meilhac, Ludovic Halevy , Prosper Merimee, with no dust jacket. First Edition unstated by G. Schirmer, New York. Presumed First Printing with no print info.
The exterior of the book is in Very Good condition with clean, cloth boards with some sheen still present on both boards, strong title gilt on a lightly sunned spine, and some smudges and fingerprints on the boards. The book also features a faded gilt top stain and clean, but toned side and bottom page blocks. Also present is a tight binding, mild spine tilt, rubbed spine ends, heavy edge wear, and rubbed corners with bare spots. The interior of book is in Very Good condition with a penned name and stamped name on the first free end paper and a small one line note on the front paste down. There is a crack in the rear hinge and the front seam is weakening. The end papers are lightly toned with no foxing and the interior pages are lightly toned and surprisingly supple, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
