Description

For sale: a Rare and Exceptional early Illustrated Edition hardcover copy of Captains Courageous: A Story of the Grand Banks by Rudyard Kipling in a Good dust jacket protected in a new archival wrap. An early Illustrated Edition marketed to youth, circa 1927 with three lines of text and 1897, 1898 copyrights.  No Printing information on copyright page and no date on the title page. 322 pages.

The exterior of the book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright boards with a bit of sheen and strong title gilt on the decorated spine and a deboss facsimile signature on the front board.  Also featured is a strong binding, clean page blocks, no spine tilt,  mild edge wear, and bumped corners.

The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the ghosts of erased prices on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and paste downs are clean with strong gutters. The interior pages are clean and moderately toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Good condition with a $2.50 price and 202 code on the front flap, and moderate surface wear and heavy edge wear with several gaps. Looks good in a new Brodart archival wrap.

Captains Courageous: A Story of the Grand Banks is an 1897 novel by Rudyard Kipling that follows the adventures of fifteen-year-old Harvey Cheyne Jr., the spoiled son of a railroad tycoon, after he is saved from drowning by a Portuguese fisherman in the north Atlantic.
