For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first hardcover edition, first printing of The Book of Common Prayer, and Administration of the Sacraments: And Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church, According to the Use of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America by Jonathan Mayhew Wainwright, with no dust jacket. Edition Certified, December 18, 1843 H.W. Hewet. First printing presumed with no subsequent certifications.
The book is in Very Good condition with worn, leather boards with mild gilt decorative borders on both covers and the full spine. Also with, gilt page blocks still present, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rubbed spine ends, heavy edge and seam wear, and rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with a smudged gift inscription on the first free end paper and the vintage publisher’s sticker on the front paste down with another smudge. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned.
