The exterior of this paperback edition is in Near Fine condition, with clean, illustrated covers with a partial crease on the back, foxed page blocks, mild surface wear, strong title on a straight spine, a tight binding with no spine cracks, heavily rubbed spine ends, mild edge wear and lightly rounded corners. The interior of the book is also in Near Fine condition with an erased price on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.
When The Awakening was first published in 1899, charges of sordidness and immorality seemed to consign it into obscurity and irreparably damage its author’s literary and social reputation. But a century after her death, it is widely regarded as Kate Chopin’s great achievement.
This Second Edition in the Norton Critical Edition series represents an extensive revision of its predecessor.
