For sale: a rare and exceptional revised hardcover edition, second printing of The Astonishment of Origins: French Sequences by Rainer Maria Rilke. First Edition stated, 1982 Gray Wolf Press. First Printing stated and with complete number line 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 directly above the First Printing statement.  Translated by A. Poulin, Jr. Bilingual edition with side-by-side French and English versions.

The book is in Very Good condition with clean, cloth boards with mild fading at the edges, strong title gilt on a concave spine, lightly foxed page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and two lightly bumped corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the previous owner’s name on the mildly foxed front end papers. No other marks, inscriptions, or signs of ownership. The interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with light soiling, moderate edge wear and the price on the front flap. Looks great in a new archival wrap.

Third in a series of 5 volumes of Rilke’s French poetry, translated by A. Poulin, published by Gray Wolf Press. The first two volumes were Saltimbanques (1978) and The roses and The windows (1979); the 4th and 5th were Orchards (1982) and The migration of powers (1984.)
