For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first hardcover edition, first printing of Anecdotes of Destiny by Isak Dinesen in a new archival wrap. First Edition unstated, 1958 Random House.  First Printing with no subsequent printing  on the copyright page.

The exterior of the book is in Very Good condition with clean, cloth boards with a bit of foxing on the front board. The spine is lightly sunned with a strong title and author ink. Also, clean page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners.  The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the previous owner’s name and date on the unevenly toned first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions or other signs of ownership. The interior pages are clean and lightly toned.

The dust jacket is in Good condition with a gap on the top spine end, moderate surface wear, heavy edge wear, and the $3.75 price and 10/58 date on the front flap.  Looks great in a new Brodart archival wrap.

Includes the classic “Babette’s Feast,” in which a mysterious Frenchwoman prepares sumptuous feast for a gathering of religious ascetics and, in doing so, introduces them to the true essence of grace. In “The Immortal Story,” a miserly old tea-trader living in Canton wishes for power and finds redemption as he turns an oft-told sailors’ tale into reality for a young man and woman.
