Description

For sale: a Rare and Exceptional  Later Edition of Seven Comedies by Marivaux by Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux. Edited by Oscar Mandel.  First THUS Edition unstated 1968 Cornell University Press with 68-16386 Library of Congress number and no dates later than 1968.  First Printing with no subsequent printing.

The book is in Very Good condition with clean, bright boards with a strong sheen, moderate title gilt on a straight spine, lightly foxed page blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and two heavily bumped corners. The interior of the book is in Very Good condition with an erased price and a few spots on the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with moderate surface wear, heavy edge and corner wear and the price on the front flap. Looks good in an archival wrap.

Pierre Carlet de Chamblain de Marivaux (February 4, 1688 – February 12, 1763), commonly referred to as Marivaux, was a French novelist and dramatist.

He is considered one of the most important French playwrights of the 18th century, writing numerous comedies for the Comédie-Française and the Comédie-Italienne of Paris. His most important works are Le Triomphe de l’amour, Le Jeu de l’amour et du hasard and Les Fausses Confidences. He also published a number of essays and two important but unfinished novels, La Vie de Marianne and Le Paysan parvenu.
