For sale: a rare and exceptional first hardcover edition, early printing of Gilgamesh by John Gardner. First Edition unstated, April 5, 1977 Alfred A. Knopf. Third Printing July, 1977 stated on copyright page.
The book is in Very Good condition with bright, cloth boards with some signs of wear, strong title gilt, two damp stains on the top of otherwise clean text blocks, tight binding, mild spine tilt, rolled spine ends, mild edge wear, and rounded corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with faint corresponding one inch stains on the top margin of the inside pages. No other marks, inscriptions, or signs of ownership. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned.
The dust jacket is in Very Good condition with toned covers, sunned spine, heavy edge wear, chips and gaps that looks great in a new archival wrap. The jacket is a first state with $12.50 price intact on the front flap and 4/77 date on the rear flap.
