For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first paperback edition, early printing  of The Wrong Side of Paris by Honoré de Balzac. First Edition stated, 2005 Modern Library. Third Printing with partial number line 4 6 9 8 7 5 3.

The exterior of this paperback edition is in Very Good condition, with bright covers with light soiling, clean page blocks, mild surface wear, strong title on a square spine, a tight binding with no spine cracks, rubbed spine ends, mild edge wear and lightly rounded corners. The interior of the book is in Near Fine condition with an erased price on the first free end paper and no other marks, inscriptions, or signs of ownership. The end papers and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned.

The Wrong Side of Paris, the final novel in Balzac’s The Human Comedy, is the compelling story of Godefroid, an abject failure at thirty, who seeks refuge from materialism by moving into a monastery-like lodging house in the shadows of Notre-Dame. Presided over by Madame de La Chanterie, a noblewoman with a tragic past.
