For sale: a Rare and Exceptional first edition, later printing hardcover copy of The Enormous Room by E. E. Cummings. First US Edition unstated, 1930 Jonathan Cape, London. First printing with no subsequent printing on copyright page. Re-issue of the 1922 UK Edition.

The book is in Very Good condition with bright boards with a few marks, strong title ink on a decorated spine and no ink on the front cover design, as issued. Hinge and text-block sound, spine is heavily sunned and there is a slight fade out at the ends of the boards.  Also with, clean page blocks, tight binding, moderate to heavy spine tilt, rolled and rubbed spine ends, heavy edge wear, and lightly rubbed corners. The interior of the book is also in Very Good condition with the previous owner’s bookplate on the front paste down has slightly discolored the first free end paper. No other marks, inscriptions, or other signs of ownership inside. The rear end paper and the interior pages are clean and lightly toned, making it an excellent addition to any collection.

 At the age of 23, he abandoned his artistic pursuits for voluntary service as an ambulance driver in France. His military career culminated in a comedy of errors leading to his arrest and imprisonment for treason, as he memorably recounts in The Enormous Room.
